Joseph A. Razes
(June 29, 1944) – Motor/Machinist’s Mate 2/c Joseph Anthony Razes, 27, of Brighton Avenue, died of a ruptured aorta on June 2. He was buried in the South Pacific. Razes enlisted in the U. S. Navy on April 2, 1942.
MoMM Razes, who entered the service from Pennsylvania, is honored on the Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Razes had lived with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Petrauskas, of Brighton Avenue, after his parents died in McAdoo, Pa., when he was a baby. He attended Montgomery and Silver Lake Schools.

PACIFIC: Thomas E. Lamb
Thomas E. Lamb
(March 29, 1945) – Seaman 2/c Thomas Edward Lamb died of his wounds in the Pacific. He is survived by his wife Danetta Lamb of Union Avenue.
Lamb grew up in Montclair where his parents still live.
Seaman Lamb entered the U.S. Naval Reserve in May 1944, and trained at Sampson, N.Y., and Newport, R.I. He had been assigned to a cargo attack ship last November. Seaman Lamb returned from his first tour a month later, then sailed out again after temporarily being assigned in California.

John Kirwin Killed In Pacific Plane Crash
Aviation Ordnanceman Dies In Navy Bomber Fall
(Sept. 28, 1944) -- Ordnanceman 3/c John F. Kirwin of Forest Street was killed in the South Pacific when his patrol plane (PBM) crashed at sea on Sept. 5.
"Jack" Kirwin was 19 when he enlisted in the Navy in February 1943. He didn't finish high school, he went as a senior to boot training at Sampson.
Kirwin received his specialized training in Tennessee, Florida and California before going overseas in July 1944.
His twin brother, James E., is believed to be serving overseas.

Seaman John Johnson Dies After Shipboard Accident
Red Cross Helps Mother Reach Son's Side
(Aug. 16, 1945) -- Seaman 2/c John Johnson, 18, died from a fractured skull sustained in an accident aboard an aircraft carrier in the Pacific on August 4.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson of Greylock Parkway, he left Belleville High School last March to enlist in the Navy. He was awarded his diploma in June.
Johnson trained in Sampson, N.Y.
He was on the carrier about a month when he slipped and fractured his skull. He was rushed to the Navy hospital in Oakland, Calif. He died five days later, three days after his mother arrived.
The Red Cross was praised for its efforts and assistance in the mother and child reunion.

He enlisted in the service in February 1943. Hourigan last resided in Newport Beach, Calif., after living in Belleville until 1936.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Richard T. Hayes, U.S. Navy, served in the United States Naval Reserve. He entered the Service from Ohio, and died on April 27, 1945.
He is listed on the Missing in Action or Buried at Sea Tablets of the Missing at Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii.
He was awarded the Air Medal with Gold Star.
Lt. Hayes is survived by his wife Mrs. Margaret Flewellyn Hayes, Washington Avenue, Belleville.

Gilmer Adams Is KIA
(May 10, 1945) -- Seaman 1/c Gilmer Adams was killed in action in the Pacific where he was serving with amphibious Navy forces.
"Bucky" Adams, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Adams of May Street.
His parents received a telegram from the Navy on April 28, but the notice did not detail his reported date of death.
Born in North Carolina, Adams was 21 when he enlisted in 1942.
He spent 2-1/2 years in the Atlantic. He transferred to the Pacific theatre of operations six months ago.
